You
can get an early start or sleep-in a little bit - it is really
up to you since our rides are self-guided and don't require anybody
to leave at a certain time.
Even though getting up early means getting around to have more fun!
We will ride through the foothills of the
Appalachians...
up
to the Blue
Ridge
Parkway
one day, and around the Smith Mountain
Lake the
next. Some of us ride alone, some ride with old friends, and some
of us ride with people we just met.
On Thursday there is a "Blue Ridge Parkway Lunch/Poker
Ride". It is a long ride (about 200 miles), but the roads
are great, and that's why we're here... to ride. We get
back in time to take a short break before we head to the Open House
Party at Triangle Cycle. The Open House Party has racer appearances, umbrella girls, good tunes, and food &
beverage. We get some autographs and photos, and even talk with the
racers while we’re
there.
On
Friday, there is a poker run ride around one of the most
beautiful lakes in Virginia - the Smith Mountain
Lake. You will see some of the same people at each
stop, but you will also meet new friends as
you will be able to take different ways to get to each
stops! On Friday afternoon we will head out to VIR for
qualifying where the winner of the Poker Run for that day will be
revealed, have a dinner and join some of the racers and
other fans at the SPEED Truck for the Fan
Party.
Saturday
morning officially starts the racing action. We already have our
admission passes and VIP parking privileges, so there is no need to
get up real early and rush to the track. When we arrive at the track,
we park our bikes in a covered parking area, where there is a
sensational view of the bikes coming down the 5-turn downhill
leading onto the front straight. Around
noon,
we all get to take our bikes out on the track and do one lap of the
same course that the pros will be racing on later that day.
Once racing is done for the day, we
will enjoy nice BBQ just for us - the rally attendees!
And Sunday
is another full day of the best motorcycle road racing in
America,
and then we'll head home.
Pretty
cool four days, don't you think so?
And of course - we’ll be back next
year!
That’s The Virginia Rally…
